A driver was traveling twice as fast as the speed limit in the canton of Lucerne. He drove into a speed trap near Knutwil at a net speed of 159 km/h. The maximum speed limit there is 80 km/h.

As the Lucerne police announced on Friday, the speeding driver, a 24-year-old Swiss national, was stopped a short time later in Buchs LU and provisionally arrested. His car, a Maserati, was seized, according to the statement.

The driver is no longer allowed to drive a motor vehicle for the time being. He will be charged with qualified gross speeding.
