Since the secondary school has existed in its current form in Basel-Stadt, i.e. since 2017/2018, the number has never been this high, as the ED writes. In the previous year, the rate was 22.9 percent; at the end of the 2017/18 school year, it was just 16.3 percent.
The canton also recorded an increase in the number of apprenticeship contracts. At the end of June, 1762 apprenticeship positions were available, almost 5 percent more than in the same month a year ago.
This year, 36.4 percent of all secondary school graduates are transferring to a grammar school. The rate of grammar school graduates has therefore risen slightly compared to the previous year, but has decreased over the last few years. Seven years ago, it was 41.2 percent, but last year it was 35.5 percent, according to the ED.
The remainder opted for the specialized baccalaureate school (12.3 percent), bridge courses (19.2 percent) and other solutions (8.1 percent).
In the past few weeks, Basel's gymnasiums and vocational schools have issued a total of 1085 baccalaureate certificates. Of these, 246 people received a vocational baccalaureate certificate, although the results from the private school Minerva are still pending. 174 people completed the vocational baccalaureate and 665 people were awarded a baccalaureate certificate, according to the report.
