The Bernese cantonal police carried out targeted traffic checks around the Gurnigel mountain race and reported twelve would-be racers. One motorcyclist was caught at 141 km/. Only 80 km/h would have been permitted on this stretch of road.

The motorcyclist had to surrender his license, as reported by the Bern cantonal police on Tuesday. The police checked a total of 250 vehicles on August 31 and September 4. They will continue to carry out checks in the Gurnigel area.

The national motorsport mountain race took place last weekend. It is considered to be technically demanding. The first race on the Gurnigel took place in 1910. The tradition was broken in 1931, only to be revived at the end of the 1960s.
