A lucky escape: a driver's car ended up in a reservoir near Guttannen BE, but motorcyclists were able to rescue him from his sinking car.

A driver drove his car into the Räterichsbodensee reservoir in Guttannen BE early on Friday evening. Motorcyclists rescued the victim from the sinking vehicle, as reported by the Bern cantonal police on Saturday.

The casualty was flown to hospital, they said. The car was recovered from the reservoir in the course of the evening with the help of a tire crane.

It is not yet clear why the driver collided with a boulder at 6.30 p.m. and left the road as a result. The Grimsel Pass road was closed while the injured driver received medical treatment and the car was recovered.
