Around 30 concerts with over 300 musicians are on the program from Sunday at the Murten Classics festival. The event is being held under the motto of joy and deliberately aims to provide a counterpoint in rather gloomy times.
Achievements of democracy are being carelessly sacrificed and a murderous war is taking place not far from our country, writes the festival's artistic director, Christoph-Mathias Müller, on the festival's homepage. With the festival theme "Joy", he wants to set an example.
Music is something that is created by people for the joy of other people. The joy of shared experience is shared by musicians and listeners.
The organizers are expecting around 8500 listeners. The program is broad and ranges from apero concerts, orchestral concerts, serenades and chamber music to children's concerts.
Performers include the Basel Symphony Orchestra, accordionist Viviane Chassot, flautist Kaspar Zehnder and pianist Adrian Oetiker. The Lausanne Marimba Ensemble, which emerged from the Lausanne School of Music, will also be performing.
The festival has been taking place since 1989. This year it runs from August 11 to September 1.
