Muttenz BL has to vote for the fourth time in just over a year. Thomas Schaub (center) has resigned from his position as municipal councillor. He announced his resignation for health reasons with retroactive effect from July 31. The replacement elections will take place on November 24, as the municipality announced on Thursday.

This means that voters in Basel's third-largest municipality will have to go to the polls again. Replacement elections for the municipal executive were already held in August 2023, as Thomi Jourdan (EPP) had previously been elected to the cantonal council. Salome Lüdi (SP) succeeded him.

Three months later, in November 2023, another by-election was held following the resignation of Joachim Hausammann. Barbara Lorenzetti (Greens) won the race. Finally, the general elections took place in March 2024. The incumbents remained in office. Yves Laukemann (SP) was newly elected - his party colleague Roger Boerlin did not stand again.

Schaub had been a member of the municipal council since August 2019 and was head of the Education and Leisure Department. He will be moving away from Muttenz with his family in the near future, according to the press release. Municipal president Franziska Stadelmann will take over his department on a deputy basis.
