Of the higher education institutions in the canton of Lucerne, only the university saw an increase in the 2023/24 academic year. In contrast, the number of students at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the Lucerne University of Teacher Education fell.

As Lustat Statistik Luzern announced on Thursday, 22,626 people were enrolled in tertiary-level education in the last academic year. In the 2022/23 academic year, there were still 2 percent more, namely 23,066 people.
According to Lustat, the decline was particularly noticeable in higher vocational education and training with a drop of 4 percent, but also at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (-2 percent) and the Lucerne University of Teacher Education (-1 percent). However, the University of Lucerne recorded an increase of just under 5 percent.
The largest tertiary education institution in the canton of Lucerne is the university with 8,655 students. 7756 people completed a course of higher vocational education. This is followed by the university (3567) and the teacher training college (2648).
