For the Chur festival next weekend, the Chur municipal police have announced targeted controls regarding drunk driving. They have asked participants to be moderate with alcohol.

Furthermore, people who are on site by car should strictly refrain from drinking alcohol, the police wrote in a communiqué on Tuesday.

The authorities are currently preparing for an increased presence during the festival. Important access roads will be secured with concrete elements. There will be increased checks on people and vehicles throughout the city. In addition, the city police want to raise awareness of the safe use of e-trend vehicles with a prevention stand.

Last year, around 85,000 people visited the Chur festival on Friday alone - more than twice as many as the population of the cantonal capital of Graubünden. Although the authorities drew a positive safety balance, there were 72 police interventions. The interventions included assistance, assaults and excessive alcohol consumption. Four people had to be taken to hospital due to a stroke, cuts and circulatory problems.
