The Basel cantonal police arrested six people during a raid in the red-light district on Thursday evening. They are accused of human trafficking and violations of the Aliens and Integration Act (AIG), as the police announced on Friday.

The check began at 11.40 p.m. in a contact bar in Kleinbasel. Milieu and human trafficking specialists led the operation. The police checked a total of 41 people. Four of them were found to be in breach of the AIG, as stated in the communiqué.

The police arrested two others on behalf of the public prosecutor's office on suspicion of human trafficking and promoting prostitution. One person wanted by the penitentiary system settled an outstanding debt on the spot.

According to the police, this raid in the Kleinbasel red light district provided important information in the fight against human trafficking and illegal prostitution. During the operation, sections of Hammerstrasse and Sperrstrasse were temporarily closed to traffic.
