Health insurance premiums will rise less sharply in the cantons of Eastern Switzerland in 2025 than the Swiss average. At 5.5 percent, costs will rise the most in the two cantons of Appenzell. In the canton of St. Gallen, premiums will rise by an average of 4.4 percent and in Thurgau by 4.7 percent.

The average health insurance premium across all age groups is rising from CHF 315.70 to CHF 329.70 in the canton of St. Gallen, as announced by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) on Thursday. The average increase is therefore 14 francs.

In the canton of Thurgau, the increase is CHF 14.90, with the average premium rising from CHF 320.30 to CHF 335.20.

Despite the increase of 5.5 percent, the effective change in the average premium has the least impact among the cantons of Eastern Switzerland in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden. Here, the additional monthly amount rises by 13.40 francs to 257.80 francs. This is the lowest figure in Switzerland. In Ausserrhoden it will rise by 17 francs to 327.30 francs.

According to the FOPH, premiums are rising by an average of 6 percent nationwide.
