As in the last two years, the federal celebrations on July 31 on the Rhine in Basel will take place with a reduced fireworks display. It will last 16 minutes and has been reduced by a third compared to the past. In contrast to previous years, a short firework display will be set off at the official celebrations on 1 August on the Bruderholz, as the organizers announced on Friday.

Large crowds are once again expected at the big national celebration on the eve of the national holiday on the Rhine. According to the police, last year there were 100,000 visitors who followed the festive program from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. on the banks of the Rhine from Wettstein Bridge to Johanniter Bridge.
In addition to a fun rowing competition, son-et-lumière rides on the fireboat and many musical performances, the highlight of the program was the two-part fireworks display on the Rhine at 11.00 pm. This will again be acoustically accompanied by music that can be downloaded to cell phones.
In addition to a lantern parade for children, a speech by the President of the Grand Council Claudio Miozzari (SP ), live music and circus performances, a short fireworks display is again on the program for the official federal celebration on the Bruderholz on the evening of 1 August. The co-president of the organizing committee, Christian Egeler, said that this was in response to many requests from the public.
According to the Basel cantonal police, the setting off of fireworks on July 31 and August 1 is once again only permitted from 18:00 to 01:00. It is prohibited within 200 meters of hospitals and zoos. Last year, the majority of the public complied with this, said police spokesman Stefan Schmitt.
