Berne Renovation of the Bern-Jura administration center takes longer
The renovation of the future cantonal administration building in Tavannes in the canton of Bern will take six to twelve months longer than planned. The canton of Bern wants to set up temporary solutions from the beginning of 2026 to enable the population to access the offices.

The floors and ceilings of the building, which was built in 1918, must be completely renovated, as the Bernese cantonal government announced in a press release on Friday. According to a specialist report, there are major differences in the condition of the load-bearing elements in terms of statics.
From 2026, the former "Tavannes Machines" factory building will house the part of the Bernese cantonal administration that is currently located in Moutier. With the change of canton from the current Bernese town of Moutier to the canton of Jura, the canton of Bern will have to relocate its administration elsewhere. This will affect the police, the judiciary and the tax administration, among others.
