A bus route is being expanded for the village of Riedern in the municipality of Glarus. From 2025, a bus will run up to the village every day until 9.10 pm. Previously, there were no connections from 8 p.m. on weekdays and from 6 p.m. on weekends.

This extension will cost just under CHF 30,000, as the Canton of Glarus Department of Construction and Environment reported on Tuesday. Extending the operating time of this bus route 501 also has benefits for the north of the canton: The connection to the Unterlandbus in the direction of Ziegelbrücke will be improved. This runs daily until 9.30 pm and offers half-hourly connections to Nieder-, Oberurnen and Ziegelbrücke.

Expansion in Klöntal too

Visitors to the Klöntal valley can also look forward to better public transport connections in the coming year. Every Sunday from June to mid-August, the bus will run from Glarus to Vorauen - i.e. to the rear of the reservoir, instead of just to the front of the dam wall as before. A half-hourly service will also be offered on these days, regardless of the weather, according to the press release.

The expansion in Klöntal will cost CHF 6500. The authorities are investing a further CHF 5,000 in an additional pair of buses on the Schwanden-Linthal bus route. Due to an "operational optimization" in connection with the Schwanden-Kies line, it will also be possible to run a bus from Schwanden at 7.28 a.m. and from Linthal at 7.55 a.m. for the coming timetable year.
