Joint projects in the energy sector, the establishment of a network and joint communication are planned. "Our aim is to achieve added value for the entire region, the local economy and individuals," said Thun's Environment Director Andrea de Meuron (Greens) according to the press release.

The city of Thun will take over the management. The participating municipalities are jointly responsible for strategic management and orientation.

The first joint project will be launched at the end of the year. This involves regional and standardized energy balancing. It is intended to provide an important data basis. The municipalities also want to sensitize the population to energy issues.

The Lake Thun energy region is open to other interested municipalities. It is supported by federal funding from the SwissEnergy program.
