The curative education school in Stans (HPS) is to be run as a day school. The cantonal council voted in favor of this on Wednesday in the revision of the Elementary School Act.

It is planned that the day school will take place during the regular teaching weeks. No childcare is planned on Wednesday afternoons or during the vacations.

The expansion of childcare services is the result of a motion that was passed by the district council. Education Director Res Schmid (SVP) said in the Landrat that this was a good development. Commission spokesperson Klaus Waser (FDP) said it was important that the day school offer, which other schools already had, was now also available at the HPS.

The HPS day school was undisputed in parliament. Delf Bucher (Greens/SP) said that what should have long been a matter of course was finally becoming a matter of course. It was mentioned several times that a solution still needed to be found for Wednesday afternoons. The planned offer was insufficient, said Denise Weger (GLP).

The partial revision of the law on elementary school was also used for further adjustments. For example, the requirement for the cantonal government to approve municipal school buildings was removed.

The final vote will take place after the second reading.
