The new five-storey building is expected to be completed in summer 2027, as the City of Bern wrote in a press release on Thursday. Pupils from the existing buildings and three additional classes will then move into the new facility. There will also be daycare facilities for schoolchildren and a new gymnasium.
In connection with the construction work, a modular building will be used on the school site, the press release added. This will initially serve as a construction office and will function as a temporary school in the second construction phase. According to the City of Bern, the renovation of the existing 70-year-old school pavilions is expected to last until fall 2028.
The Stöckacker elementary school currently has space for eight classes. Due to the increasing number of schoolchildren in the catchment area, the city of Bern needs more school space. Voters clearly approved the construction loan of 65.8 million francs associated with the expansion at the ballot box in June.
