The city council of Sursee LU wants to make better use of the potential of solar energy. It has drawn up a counter-proposal to the solar initiative. The Greens are therefore withdrawing their petition for a referendum.

Voters are to decide on the counter-proposal at the municipal assembly on October 14, 2024, as announced by the town of Sursee on Wednesday. According to the city, the counter-proposal is aligned with the revised cantonal energy law. This is due to come into force on March 1, 2025.

The new cantonal law provides for the installation of photovoltaic systems in new buildings and roof renovations. Alternatively, a replacement levy can be paid. The counter-proposal sets a higher hurdle here. Payment should only be possible in Sursee if a photovoltaic system is economically unreasonable.

The counter-proposal also sets out requirements for the greening of flat roofs. In contrast to the initiative, however, it refrains from a solar obligation for facades.

According to the city of Sursee, the initiators have withdrawn their popular initiative because the counter-proposal has taken up key concerns.
