Four lists have been drawn up for the elections to Bern's city parliament. The SVP list will not be joining forces for the parliamentary elections, as the city chancellery announced on Monday.

The Social Democrats are joining forces with the Green Alliance, the Green Free List, the Young Alternative YES!, the Young Socialists and Volt Switzerland. Volt sees itself as a pro-European citizens' movement.

The Green Liberals, the Center, the EPP, the Pirate Party and the FDP with its young parties have also entered into a list alliance, as can be seen from the press release.

There is also a list combination of Aufrecht Stadt Bern and the EDU as well as one of the Party of Labor with Tier im Fokus and the Alternative Left.

Two blocks have entered into further sub-list combinations. In the City of Bern, the government and parliament are elected using the proportional representation system. This means that the list votes are counted first. This determines which party or list receives how many votes. Within the list, the candidates with the most personal votes are then elected.

List combinations and sub-list combinations are permitted for city council elections. Anyone who enters into a list combination is initially treated as a single list for the distribution of seats. This can increase the chances of winning a seat. Only in a further step are the seats distributed among the combined lists.
