The city of Zurich has opened a temporary recycling center in Affoltern: It serves as a disposal point for the population until a modern facility is available in Altstetten.

As the Hagenholz waste recycling plant is being expanded, the recycling center located there had to be closed at the end of July. Entsorgung + Recycling Zürich (ERZ) has now opened a temporary facility on the Looächer industrial site in Affoltern.

The same waste categories can be deposited there as in Hagenholz, as the city had announced earlier. The site is now also accessible to customers on foot or on two-wheelers. ERZ is also testing how waste can be avoided. For example, there is a temporary exchange point where items in good condition and in working order can be handed in.

The definitive successor to Hagenholz is to be built on the Juch site in Altstetten: The city of Zurich is planning a recycling center there, which is dedicated to the circular economy and will become a symbol of reuse and recycling. The new building is to have the highest possible proportion of reused components.
