On Tuesday, the Bernese cantonal parliament
- decided to amend six laws because Moutier is about to be transferred to the canton of Jura.
- decided to continue with the digital collection of signatures.
- voted 77 in favour, 73 against and one abstention in favour of Bernese municipalities being able to grant foreigners the right to vote in future. It passed a motion to this effect. As this will result in a change to the law, the people will have the final say.
- It was also learned that Nils Fiechter (SVP) had withdrawn his motion to cancel the cantonal audio signet project. As this was a directive motion, the government would have had quite a lot of leeway in implementing the request if it had been accepted.
- decided that the three national churches will receive CHF 29.4 million annually for the years 2026 to 2031 for their services to society as a whole.
- decided to support its regional nature parks and the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site with a total of CHF 7.478 million from 2025 to 2028.
