At its session on Wednesday, the Cantonal Council of Schwyz elected
- Eveline Jost as Commissioner for Publicity and Data Protection for the remainder of the 2024 to 2028 term of office.
- elected members to the audit committees of the University of Applied Sciences of Central Switzerland, the Intercantonal Police College, the Central Switzerland BVG and Foundation Supervisory Authority and the Laboratory of the Original Cantons.
- A partial revision of the cantonal energy law was discussed. Parliament voted 90 to 6 in favor of promoting deep geothermal energy in the canton.
- approved annual expenditure of CHF 2.5 million for the next four years to promote the 2025-2028 building program.
- The cantonal parliament discussed an amendment to the Cantonal Council Election Act and voted against the introduction of a residency requirement by 66 votes to 27 with three abstentions. Two motions from the SP and the Center Party were also declared irrelevant by 42 votes to 53. These provided for the electoral law to be amended to allow voting for a list in municipalities with only a few candidates.
- a motion on payment cards for asylum seekers was declared substantial by 74 votes to 21.
- a postulate on the creation of barrier-free election and voting documents in the canton of Schwyz was declared non-considerable by 21 votes to 74.
- a motion on refunding millions in surpluses to the people of Schwyz was declared non-considerable by 63 votes to 31 with one abstention.
- took note of the 2024-2028 government program with 77 votes in favour and 15 against.
- discussed the future of the Education Council. Under discussion were a motion to abolish the Education Council and a motion calling for a better composition of the specialist body. The first was converted into a postulate and was declared substantial by 78 votes to 16, while the second was declared not substantial by 59 votes to 35. The government proposed that the postulate be included in its draft agenda.
- the motion "Efficiency gains through digitalization - creating opportunities for municipalities" was declared to be substantial by 85 votes to 8.
- took note of an interpellation on the Ochsenboden ammunition testing center in Studen in Unteriberg.
- took note of an interpellation on hardship applications in the canton of Schwyz.
- Acknowledged an interpellation on the figures for property gains tax.
- Acknowledged an interpellation on the Buosingen Federal Asylum Center.
- Acknowledged an interpellation on the costs of protection status S for the Canton of Schwyz.
- Acknowledged an interpellation on three-part driving bans on agricultural roads.
- a postulate on the financial appreciation of the care and support work of family members was declared non-considerable by 19 votes to 72 with one abstention.
