The city of Thun wants to use "simple measures" to try and reduce through traffic in the pedestrian zone in Thun city center. The aim is to improve the quality of the pedestrian zone, as the city wrote in a press release.
In future, for example, trucks weighing more than 28 tons will no longer be allowed to drive from Schwäbisgasse into Gerberngasse. To avoid traffic jams, delivery vehicles in Bälliz will be given an alternative route in future, the city added.
Tradespeople will be allowed to park their vehicles free of charge in nearby parking garages so that they no longer have to stand around in the city center. The city will cover the costs.
The city is also shortening the midday rest period for tradespeople by one hour. In line with the local police regulations, access will now be permitted as early as 1.00 pm.
The measures are to be implemented on a trial basis from January 1, 2025. The measures are based on a workshop and a working group.
