The work in the Mühlebühl (Herisau), Bühlberg (Degersheim) and Wasserfluh (Lichtensteig) tunnels and on around 20 sub-projects along the line between Herisau and Wattwil has been completed, as Südostbahn AG (SOB) wrote in a press release on Thursday. SBB has also completed the renewal work between Wattwil and Uznach. This means that the line between Herisau and Uznach, which has been closed since July 6, can be used by trains again from mid-August.
Between August 12 and September 5, there will be further closures on the Herisau-Lichtensteig line on several evenings and nights. Replacement buses will then run between Herisau and Wattwil.
The Brunnadern-Neckertal - Lichtensteig railroad line will also be partially closed from September 8 to 19 for completion work in the Wasserfluhtunnel. The closures will also take place on several days in the evening and at night. Replacement buses will run between Brunnadern-Neckertal and Wattwil.
Investment of 50 million francs
The SOB's work began in March and will continue until December. Südostbahn is investing around 50 million Swiss francs in the project. Specifically, the track, walls and parts of the railroad technology in several tunnels have been renovated or modernized. At Lichtensteig station, two viaducts and the pedestrian footbridge are to be repaired.
