Two elderly racing cyclists were seriously injured in two accidents in the canton of Obwalden on Friday morning. An elderly cyclist sustained minor injuries.

The 79-year-old cyclist collided with a 67-year-old racing cyclist in Giswil when she rode off a forecourt onto a road. The man sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident and was hospitalized by a helicopter, according to the Obwalden cantonal police.

A short time later, a 79-year-old man was riding his racing bike downhill from Melchtal towards Flüeli-Ranft. According to the cantonal police, he fell and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.
