Rescue workers rescued two swimmers in distress from the Rhine in Basel on Sunday with the help of civilians. The two people rescued were uninjured, as the Basel-Stadt cantonal police reported on Monday.

In their communiqué, the cantonal police point out that swimming in the Rhine at high tide and in murky water poses considerable dangers. Strong, unpredictable currents and floating debris under the surface of the water could quickly lead to life-threatening situations.
