Grand Council BS Vote on Basel indoor swimming pool initiative postponed again
The voting deadline for the cantonal popular initiative "50 meters of indoor swimming pool for Basel - now" has been postponed again by 18 months. This was decided unanimously by the Grand Council on Wednesday. The preservation of the Musical Theater is to be voted on first.

A postponement could ensure that the two votes are put to the people independently of each other, said Education Director Mustafa Atici (SP).
In April 2022, the Basel government announced plans to build a new indoor swimming pool with a 50-metre pool on the site of the current Musical Theater Basel. In response, a committee launched an initiative to preserve the Musical Theater, which came to fruition in September 2023. According to the government, it must be put to the vote by March 2025 at the latest. The indoor pool initiative will only be put to the ballot box after that. Parliament had already decided in April 2023 to extend the deadline in order to avoid a collision between the two referendums.
