Working conditions in nail salons are not at their best: during an inspection of 43 nail salons in the canton of Zurich, the responsible office discovered wage dumping or illegal employment in the majority of businesses.

The Office of Economy and Labor inspected smaller businesses with up to five employees and medium-sized businesses with up to 20 people. The results, which the office published on Wednesday, do not shed a good light on the booming industry.

In 28 cases, the office found suspected wage dumping. In 15 cases, nail stylists were allegedly employed illegally. The statutory working hours and rest periods were also frequently not observed. The labor inspectorate will now investigate the violations in more detail.
