The city of Winterthur announced on Thursday that 1,100 of the 1,230 verified signatures were valid. This means that the threshold of 1000 signatures has been reached. The city council will now next decide whether it wants to submit a counter-proposal to the initiative. The proposal will then be submitted to parliament.
"Whenever possible"
This is the second attempt by the FDP, SVP, Mitte and EDU to restrict the 30 km/h speed limit in the city of Winterthur by means of a popular initiative. A first version of the initiative was declared invalid by the district council because it was formulated too absolutely and violated overriding law.
In its current form, the text of the initiative contains certain mitigations. "Wherever possible", a speed limit of 50 km/h should apply on bus routes. To this end, the routes should be "considered individually".
