The Zurich cantonal police can purchase 2664 new service weapons and the necessary pistol holsters: The government council has approved the requested credit of CHF 4.55 million, as announced on Friday.

The cantonal police currently have weapons from the manufacturer Heckler & Koch. These have been in use since 2008, i.e. for 16 years. They have reached the end of their service life, according to the press release and the corresponding government council minutes. Spare parts and accessories are now very difficult to obtain,

These service weapons are now to be replaced; the cantonal police are now relying on a model from the manufacturer Glock. "The equipping with the new service weapons and the proper disposal of the existing ones will be completed throughout the corps by mid-2029."
