A mentally disturbed man injured a Zurich city police officer on Thursday: The 29-year-old Cameroonian had previously robbed two women - he is now in medical care, the police announced on Friday. It was not the only attack on police officers.

According to the statement, the Cameroonian man stole a pair of sunglasses from a passer-by on Bahnhofstrasse after 12.30 p.m. on Thursday. The victim managed to take a photo of the man with her cell phone and send it to the police. Later, the same perpetrator stole a shoe from a woman in a streetcar on line 9.

Members of the Zurich city police discovered the man in a streetcar at the Kunsthaus stop thanks to the help of passers-by. They took him outside, where a scuffle broke out. The 29-year-old pushed a policewoman to the ground and punched her colleague in the face, according to the press release. The police officer then had to be taken to hospital injured.

The Cameroonian was then arrested with the help of passers-by and a brief use of irritants.

Bites, screams and spit

The Zurich city police recorded further similar incidents on Thursday. When three police officers wanted to check and arrest a woman shortly before 8 a.m. in District 9 following an assault, she put up a fierce fight. The 42-year-old Swiss woman bit a police officer on the arm and spat at him, the city police reported on Friday.

Both the man who was bitten and the woman who was arrested subsequently had to be treated as outpatients in hospital. The woman then had to be taken into medical care due to her mental state.

At 6 p.m. that evening, passers-by reported that a man without outerwear was walking around on a street shouting and that a streetcar had had to make an emergency stop because of him. According to the statement, the 29-year-old Angolan then approached the police officers who had been called in an aggressive and unpredictable manner. During the arrest, he kicked, punched and scratched them. He was also later handed over to medical care.

A 34-year-old German man had also threatened, insulted and spat at a patrol of the city police in District 11 shortly after 7 am. The man was suspected of having attacked and injured his partner. He was arrested.
