Anyone in the canton of Zurich who wants to set up a new children's swing in their garden above a certain size should benefit from a simplified approval procedure in future. On Monday, the Cantonal Council referred a postulate to the government without discussion. The council will still debate a simpler construction procedure for pergolas.

The postulate to simplify the building permit procedure came from the ranks of the FDP, SVP, SP, AL, SVP and Mitte. It concerns swings and other children's play equipment. The Cantonal Council listened to this request by referring the postulate to the government.

According to the current regulations, only play equipment up to a height of 2.5 meters and a surface area of 6 square meters is exempt from the obligation to register and obtain a permit. For higher or larger models, a building permit is required as soon as they are permanently anchored.

Discussion about pergolas follows

The postulate from the FDP, EVP, SVP and Mitte pursues a similar goal, i.e. also the simplification of the building procedure. However, this is not about "Gireizli", but about pergolas. The postulators want to allow pergolas of up to 16 square meters to be built without a building permit or registration requirement.

Under the current provisions, only pergolas up to a maximum height of 2.5 meters and a maximum area of 6 square meters are exempt from the notification and approval requirement.

The postulators point out that a frequently sold pergola model has a surface area of 9 square meters. However, this item is too large to be exempt from the obligation to register and a building permit must therefore be obtained for it. This would entail "disproportionate effort and costs".

The government wanted to accept the postulate, but a debate in the Council was requested. The matter therefore remains on the agenda and will be dealt with at a later date.
