As if it were a present for its 150th birthday on July 3, Basel Zoo is delighted to present four newborn cheetahs. Weighing in at around 2.4 kilograms, the males and females were born on May 19.

The four cubs are strong enough to grow up, but are still nameless, the zoo announced on Monday. This is the first litter for female cheetah Saada, who herself was born at Basel Zoo in 2021, and for her father Drogo.

According to the press release, cheetahs are typically solitary animals - the females even more so than the males. Mother Saada also raises the cubs alone at the zoo. They can be seen in the outdoor enclosure of the Etosha facility. The father currently has to live behind the scenes.

A total of eight cheetahs - three males and five females - live in several enclosures in front of and behind the scenes at Basel Zoo.
