Violence Two asylum seekers arrested for attack on young Jew in Davos

Following the assault on a 19-year-old Jew in Davos last week, the cantonal police of Graubünden have arrested the alleged perpetrators. They are two young asylum seekers of unknown nationality, as the police announced on Thursday.

The attack took place on Friday night. The Jewish-Orthodox tourist was beaten and insulted by two men. Shortly afterwards, the city police stopped two suspects. They tried to evade a check, but failed.

The two rejected asylum seekers from a nearby departure center were then arrested. The perpetrators, aged 24 and 29, are strongly suspected of assaulting the Orthodox Jewish man from Great Britain shortly before 1 a.m. on Friday. They are also suspected of having committed two burglaries on the same night.

At the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, the cantonal police recently classified the attack as an offense committed while going out in the evening. Such attacks often occur "especially when going out". The only difference here was that the alleged victim was Jewish, a police spokeswoman explained.
