The fire on Niesenweg was reported to the Bern cantonal police shortly before 12.40 p.m., as they wrote in a statement on Friday. The flames did not spread to surrounding buildings.

The affected apartment on the upper floor of the apartment building is no longer habitable. The municipality was able to organize alternative accommodation. Investigations into the cause of the fire and the amount of property damage are ongoing, according to the statement.

Due to the large amount of smoke, there were temporary restrictions in the Münsingen area. The population was urged to close doors and windows and switch off ventilation and air conditioning systems at around 1 pm. The access roads around the Niesenweg were also completely closed. The all-clear was given by the Alertswiss warning service shortly before 3 pm.
