According to the US media, Donald Trump's election campaign has received a single donation of 50 million US dollars. Thanks to the lavish donation from billionaire Timothy Mellon, MAGA Inc. received more than 68 million US dollars at the end of May, the New York Times reported on Thursday (local time).

Mellon transferred the money directly on the day after Trump's conviction in the trial for concealed hush money payments, the broadcaster NBC News reported.
According to the New York Times, the individual donation is one of the largest sums ever paid in to support candidates. Little is known about Mellon. According to the Wall Street Journal, the 81-year-old heir to one of the richest US families lives in seclusion in Wyoming. He has been supporting conservative candidates and groups on a grand scale since the 2020 presidential election. He had already paid 25 million dollars each to the lobby groups of Trump and the independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
As election campaigns in the USA cost a fortune, candidates are reliant on generous supporters in order to be successful. Trump is likely to be the Republican candidate in the race against incumbent US President Joe Biden in November. Biden, meanwhile, has also been fundraising for himself. According to the Washington Post, New York's former mayor Mike Bloomberg recently paid a total of 20 million dollars to lobby organizations for Biden in order to support the Democrat's re-election. "I backed Joe Biden in 2020, and I'm proud to do so again," Bloomberg commented on his donation to the paper on Thursday.
