Big disappointment for Yann Sommer and Manuel Akanji: Bodö/Glimt pulled off the big surprise, winning the second match against Inter at the San Siro after the first leg and knocking last year's finalists out of the competition.
The Norwegians from Bodö/Glimt make the sensation perfect. The team from north of the Arctic Circle eliminated Inter Milan in the sixteenth final of the Champions League. After the first leg, it also wins away from home, this time 2:1.
Bodö/Glimt defended the 3:1 from the first leg without much trepidation and became the first Norwegian team to survive a knockout round in the Champions League. When the Italians, who have reached the Champions League final twice in the last three years, had their best chances, the astonishing Norwegians were already leading at the San Siro. They scored after the break through Jens Hauge (58') and Hakon Evjen (72') to take a 2-0 lead.
Manuel Akanji played an unfortunate role in the 0:1. The Swiss was the last defender to lose the ball. Compatriot Yann Sommer was able to fend off Ole Blomberg's first shot, but the former international goalkeeper had no chance with Jens Hauge's follow-up. Akanji, who had received treatment on his head a few minutes before his mistake and was therefore wearing a thick bandage, missed the 1:1 with a shot at the post from a good position in the 69th minute.
Alessandro Bastoni scored the equalizer at the start of the final quarter of an hour to launch the final offensive. However, the Serie A leaders were unable to create any more excitement. Without the injured Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu, the favorites lacked ideas and penetration in attack for long stretches.
