Eintracht Frankfurt's winning streak comes to an end in the first round of the Europa League. The Hessians had to settle for a 3-3 draw against Viktoria Pilsen after conceding two goals in the final minutes.
After three successive wins in the Bundesliga, Frankfurt carelessly squandered what they thought was a sure triumph in the Europa League. The visitors from the Czech Republic turned the game on its head with goals in the 86th and 93rd minutes. Aurèle Amenda was once again left out by coach Dino Toppmöller. The 21-year-old central defender has only made one brief appearance since moving from Young Boys to Frankfurt this summer.
Nedim Bajrami got off to a better start at his new club in two respects. The former Swiss junior international, who now plays for Albania, scored after just 56 seconds for Glasgow Rangers in a 2-0 win in Malmö. It was the first goal in the third game for Bajrami, who wore the shirt of Sassuolo before moving to Scotland.
Following the dismissal of coach Daniele De Rossi, AS Roma missed out on their second win in their second game under new coach Ivan Juric. Despite dominating the game, the Italians conceded a 1:1 equalizer against Athletic Bilbao shortly before the end.
José Mourinho made a successful start to the Europa League campaign. The Portuguese head coach won 2-1 with Fenerbahce Istanbul against Union Saint-Gilloise, while Fenerbahce's city rivals Besiktas went down 4-0 at Ajax Amsterdam.
