- Xherdan Shaqiri makes history with his dream goal against Scotland.
- In the football talk "Heimspiel bei der Nati", Ciriaco Sforza and Michael Wegmann talk about the attacking star.
- The two also believe that Murat Yakin deliberately "tickles" Shaqiri a little to spur him on to peak performance.
In the football talk show "Heimspiel bei der Nati", former national team player Ciriaco Sforza and blue Sport department head Michael Wegmann naturally also discuss Xherdan Shaqiri the day after the Scotland game. "That was a world-class goal, that's what we have him for, that's what he's here for," commented Sforza on Shaqiri's stroke of genius. "Not everyone can do that. It's in his blood. He doesn't have to train it."
However, the question of whether Shaqiri played a good game is not quite so easy to answer. "If he hadn't scored the goal, he wouldn't have made a positive impression," says Wegmann, who is critical of Shaq's defensive behavior before the goal.
"I'd be upset," admits Sforza, but at the same time believes that deficits are to be expected. "Did he play a good game? It can get better, there is certainly still potential for improvement. But you mustn't forget what he can do for the team in attack. That's worth its weight in gold," summarizes the new FC Schaffhausen coach.
Even before the European Championship, there was much discussion about Shaqiri's role. Murat Yakin said at a press conference that Sahqiri would not be able to play twice in four days. Against Hungary, he then sat on the bench for the full distance and so there was even more speculation about his fitness. This was despite the fact that Shaqiri dismissed the whole discussion as "embarrassing".
Against Scotland, the high-class technician was allowed to start from the beginning - and promptly set an exclamation mark with his box. Wegmann believes that Yakin deliberately provoked Shaqiri a little in order to spur him on to peak performance. Sforza, who knows Muart Yakin well from their time together, agrees. However, he believes that the two would still get on well. "Yakin knows how to tickle Shaqiri. I think that's excellent and I want it to stay that way."
