In addition, prizes will also be awarded in the categories "Song of the Summer", "Best Group", "Best Trending Video" and the "most iconic" VMA performance of all time, according to the organizers.

This means that pop superstar Taylor Swift goes into the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in mid-September with the best chance of winning. With her nominations, including in the Video and Song of the Year categories, the 34-year-old leads the list of nominees.

In the new "Most Iconic Performance" category, nominees include Madonna's 1984 performance of the hit "Like a Virgin", Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" performance (2009), Katy Perry's "Roar" performance from 2013 and Taylor Swift on the VMA stage in 2009 with the hit "You Belong With Me".

Post Malone with eleven chances

Swift, who has twelve nominations, is followed by singer Post Malone, who collaborated with Swift on the hit song and video "Fortnight", with eleven nominations. He is also in the running for his collaboration with country star Morgan Wallen for "I Had Some Help".

Rapper Eminem ("Houdini") has eight chances of winning, while Ariana Grande, Megan Thee Stallion, Sabrina Carpenter and SZA each have seven. Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, Benson Boone and GloRilla, among others, can also hope to win prizes. Katy Perry (39, "Teenage Dream") is to receive the "Video Vanguard Award" as an honorary prize at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Megan Thee Stallion hosts the evening

US rapper Megan Thee Stallion (29, "Hiss", "Body") will take to the stage as host on September 11. Rapper Nicki Minaj has hosted the show in the past two years. The trophy gala will take place in the US state of New York. Live performances by Katy Perry, Camila Cabello, Sabrina Carpenter and GloRilla have already been announced in advance.

The awards have been presented since 1984. Fans can vote for their favorites online. The trophies depict an astronaut figure holding an MTV flag.
