"Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F" is the fourth installment of the cult series, directed by Mark Molloy. The Australian, who is making his feature film debut with the action comedy, was thrilled to work with Murphy. "The fact that I was able to work with someone like him on my first film was really inspiring," Molloy told the German Press Agency in London

"Beverly Hills Cop" had influenced him as a child. "I saw that movie and it just blew me away," Molloy said. "Everything about Axel Foley was just so cool." The director was all the more pleased to now be shooting with Murphy. "He's incredible. I think he's one of the greatest comedians of all time," enthused Molloy. "But I think his acting skills are underrated, he doesn't get enough credit for that. He's such a great actor, so well prepared and so focused. When he shoots a scene, he has a clear picture of it beforehand."

Part III flopped

The role of unconventional Detroit police officer Axel Foley, who solves a murder in Los Angeles on his own initiative, made Eddie Murphy a global star in 1984. Three years after "Beverly Hills Cop - Ich lös' den Fall auf jeden Fall" (German title), he landed another big box office hit with "Beverly Hills Cop II". However, the third part from 1994 failed with audiences and critics and proved to be a box office flop. "I never saw it," Molloy admitted and laughed. "I know it's a bit controversial."

"Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F", which, like the first two parts, was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer ("Pirates of the Caribbean", "Top Gun: Maverick"), can be seen on the streaming service Netflix from July 3. Axel Foley returns to Los Angeles because his daughter is being threatened and an old friend has disappeared. Many of the actors from the old films are back, including Judge Reinhold as Rosewood, John Ashton as Taggart and Paul Reiser as Jeffrey. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon also star.
