Fabian Schär is tough as nails. Despite a broken nose, the Swiss defender trained with the team as normal on Friday in training sessions closed to the public.

In the second group game against Scotland, Schär suffered the fracture after just under 20 minutes during a header duel. However, the 32-year-old Newcastle international played out the game after brief treatment. Unlike France star Kylian Mbappé, Schär does not need a mask to protect his nose. It's not the first broken nose in Schär's career anyway, said a national team media spokesperson.

The recently injured Steven Zuber and Denis Zakaria, who were not on the match sheet in the first two games, also took part in the training session, which was once again held at the Waldau Stadium after a new turf was laid. Only Ruben Vargas completed a special program. The 25-year-old attacker had taken a knock on the foot against Scotland and limped off the pitch in the 75th minute. However, his participation against Germany is not in jeopardy for the time being, according to team officials.

On Sunday (21:00), Switzerland and Germany, who have maximum points after two games, will face off in Frankfurt. The Swiss need a win to top the group.
