Sion also win their second game of the season. The newly promoted team beat Lausanne-Sport 4:0 at home.
After a year in the Challenge League, FC Sion has returned to the top division with renewed strength. With Théo Berdayes and Ali Kabacalman, two players scored the first two goals in the first ten minutes, representing the new Sion, which relies more on locals than in the past. The two Vaudois players helped Yverdon to promotion in the season before last, but remained in the Challenge League themselves: 22-year-old Berdayes returned to Valais after a loan spell, while Kabacalman joined Sion on a free transfer.
On Saturday evening at the Tourbillon, Berdayes made it 1-0 after less than seven minutes following a counter-attack and a good finish. Kabacalman doubled the lead three minutes later with a converted penalty. What followed was less spectacular, but efficient. Sion defended with solidarity and discipline against the attacks of Lausanne, who had repeatedly caught the Basel defense off guard last weekend. This time they found hardly any solutions and remained winless against FC Sion for a 14th game in a row.
Cristian Souza and Numa Lavanchy scored the third and fourth goals in the final ten minutes in front of over 10,000 fans in the Valais stadium.
