Shortly before the end of the European Football Championship, UEFA has drawn a positive balance. "We are very, very satisfied with how the tournament went", Swiss tournament director Martin Kallen told dpa.
"The organization was very, very good. The games were good. There were few surprises," Kallen summed up at a reception in Munich to honor the volunteers.
The UEFA representative found the streakers during the tournament "very annoying". Some of it was commercial and there were people who paid for it. "That's one part of the streakers. The other part was due to Ronaldomania, because Ronaldo as a superstar electrified people so much that they wanted to take a selfie with him." The incidents were not ideal. "You should be able to play through a football match. But we lived with it and kept making adjustments so that there were fewer of them," said Kallen.
In addition to the speedsters, there were also repeated difficulties with transport and Deutsche Bahn. We have known for a long time that the railroad had problems, said Kallen. "But we have also seen that there have been a lot of trains. The offer is very large and varied." He traveled by train every day and made sure that he arrived at least three hours in advance. This buffer was enough. "I adapted a bit."
