Healthcare Biel Hospital Center with record number of patients in 2023

Spitalzentrum Biel (SZB) treated over 134,000 patients in 2023. That's more than ever before. In the previous year, the figure was 128,00. At the same time, the hospital posted a loss of 9.3 million francs, as the SBZ announced on Wednesday.

However, over 40 percent of this loss was due to a special write-off for a new construction project at Biel/Bienne railroad station, according to the press release. The SBZ invested in more space for outpatient care there.

The SBZ recorded a slight decrease of 0.2 percent in the number of inpatients. In the outpatient area, there was an increase of 5.1 percent last year, the press release continues.
