The 41-year-old driver crossed into the oncoming lane shortly before 7 p.m. for reasons that are still unclear. He broke through a crash barrier and fell around eight meters down the embankment, said a spokeswoman for the Thurgau cantonal police on Monday morning at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. The driver and the children aged 10, 15 and 16 who were also traveling in the car were only slightly injured. "We can speak of luck," said the police spokeswoman. The vehicle was a total loss. The Thurgau cantonal police are investigating the cause of the accident.

The Wil-Münchwilen Pflegeheim section of the Frauenfeld-Wil Railway is expected to remain closed until the end of operations on Tuesday, as Appenzeller Bahnen wrote on its website.
