Three days after the passage of typhoon "Yagi", the death toll in Vietnam has risen to at least 127. 54 people are still missing, state media reported on Tuesday. In the capital Hanoi, the water rose higher than at any time since 2008.

More than 25,000 trees were uprooted and blocked numerous roads. The authorities warned of further flooding in the historic center of the capital.

"Yagi" hit Vietnam's northern coast on Saturday with wind speeds of 149 kilometers per hour, making it the strongest cyclone to hit the country in 30 years. Strong winds, rain and landslides destroyed bridges, numerous houses and factories. The north of Vietnam is an important production location for international companies such as Samsung and Foxconn.

According to a study published in July, typhoons in the region are forming closer and closer to the coast due to climate change, strengthening faster and staying over land for longer.
