The flood situation in Romania remains tense. At least six people have died in heavy rain and severe flooding in the Carpathian region. The Galati, Vaslui and Iasi regions in the east of the country were particularly affected. Around 300 people had to be evacuated to safety and around 6,000 farmhouses were flooded.

The victims were mainly elderly people, including two women aged 96 and 86. The highest flood warning level remains in place until midday.

Mostly remote villages are affected by the masses of water. People climbed onto the roofs of houses to avoid being swept away by the floods. Hundreds of firefighters were deployed.
