More and more US stations are now able to broadcast Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show again. Two media companies, Nexstar and Sinclair, had initially held on to the suspension of the show. The Sinclair Group has now announced that it will return "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" to the program with immediate effect.

Sinclair announced that it had received and evaluated "thoughtful feedback" from viewers, advertisers and community leaders over the past few days. Together with the ABC channel, they wanted to continue to offer content for a broad audience. Sinclair has almost 40 ABC-affiliated local stations in its portfolio. The media company Nexstar, which has around 30 ABC customers, did not initially announce any new steps. The two groups would together serve around 20 percent of local ABC channels in the USA, the broadcaster CNN reported.
Boycott and return of the show
Jimmy Kimmel's ABC late-night show was canceled indefinitely last week. The background to this were comments made by the presenter on his show in relation to the fatal attack on right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
The Walt Disney Company, which includes the ABC channel with the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" show, had announced that production of the show had been suspended in order to avoid further inflaming a tense situation in the country. They were of the opinion that some of Kimmel's comments were inappropriate. The past few days had been spent in intensive discussions with Kimmel. This has now led to the decision to resume the show.
Kimmel's return to the screens with his TV late-night show had broken records according to preliminary figures. According to US media reports, almost 6.3 million viewers tuned in on Tuesday evening. US President Donald Trump had welcomed the temporary cancellation of the show - and criticized Kimmel's return.
