At the start of his top-level talks in the customs dispute with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, US President Donald Trump expressed his conviction that both sides are interested in a fair trade relationship. It was an honor for him to have von der Leyen with him, he said in Turnberry, Scotland. The US has had a very good relationship with the EU over the years, but it has been a one-sided deal that has been unfair to the US. "And I think both sides want fairness," he added.

It is eagerly awaited whether an agreement will be reached during the talks. Trump had threatened the EU with tariffs of 30 percent on European imports from August 1.
