Storms in the mountains and lots of thunderstorms: the conditions for excursions or vacations in the mountains were particularly bad in July. All in all, the Swiss mountain railroads have drawn a mixed interim balance for the period from May to the end of July.

"In the first three summer months, the railroads were unable to match the extremely positive results of the same period last year," reported Cableways Switzerland on Tuesday. Frequencies fell by five percent, but were still twelve percent higher than the average for the last five years.

After a cool and wet June, the weather in July was also predominantly bad at weekends. This had a particular impact on companies with domestic guests: Here, the figures fell by nine percent, while mountain railroads with mainly foreign guests recorded a decline of two percent. It was not until the second half of July that the weather improved, bringing more activity to the mountains.
